Datong District
Datong District is located on the southern bank of the middle reaches of the Huaihe River and the north of Shungeng Mountain. It borders Dingyuan, Huaiyuan, and Fengyang to the east, Changfeng County to the south, Tianjia’an District to the west, and Panji District to the north. It is the “East Gate” of Huainan City.
Convenient transportation. There are four expressways, including Beijing-Fuzhou Expressway, Hefei-Huainan-Fuyang Expressway, Huainan-Bengbu Expressway, and Jinan-Qimen Expressway, and one national highway 206 National Highway. Departing from the downtown, we can arrive in Hefei within 1 hour, arrive in Nanjing within 3 hours, and arrive in Shanghai, Hangzhou, Nanchang, Wuhan, Zhengzhou, and Jinan within 6 hours. There are two high-speed railways running through Huainan, including the Beijing-Fuzhou High-Speed Railway and the Shangqiu-Hangzhou High-Speed Railway, and one electrified railway connects Beijing-Shanghai Railway to the east and the Beijing-Kowloon Railway to the west. By railway, it takes us 18 minutes to arrive in Hefei, 2 hours to arrive in Wuhan, and 3 hours to arrive in Shanghai, Beijing, and Hangzhou. It is only an hour's drive from Xinqiao Airport, and domestic flights can directly fly to major cities in China. Multiple international routes to Australia, the United States, Japan, South Korea and Singapore have been opened. Huainan Port, with a capacity of 3,000 tons, is currently under construction and will become the largest port in the Huaihe River basin. With the implementation of the water diversion from Yangtze River to Huaihe River, the advantages of water resources in Huainan will be further highlighted.
Ecological environment. Shungeng Mountain stretches for more than 20 kilometers, with over 30 peaks and the highest peak reaching an altitude of 216 meters. It boasts rich natural and cultural resources and complex terrain. Rocks, springs, caves, and lakes take on diverse scenery and the enviroment in forest is amazing.
Shangyao Mountain. The national 4A -level forest park is located on the beautiful and fertile shores of Gaotang Lake, relying on the graceful and picturesque Shangyao landscape. Gaotang Lake. Located in the south of Shangyao Town and the east of Jiulonggang Town in Datong District, with a water area of 50 square kilometers, 16 kilometers long from north to south, and an average width of about 3 kilometers, it is one of the aquaculture bases in Huainan City.
Caichengtang, located in Kongdian Township, Datong District, with a length of about 5.5 kilometers and a width of 500 to 800 meters, it covers over 5,000 mu of water and is one of the famous ancient water conservancy projects in Northern Anhui.
History and Humanities. The ancient Shouzhou Kiln site is located in the cypress forest in the south of Shangyao Forest Park and there is a kiln site monument erected. In 1981, it was approved as a provincial key cultural relic and in 2001, it was approved as a national key cultural relic.
New Fourth Army Memorial Forest is the only publicity and education base in Anhui Province that integrates forests, monuments and history. It promotes the spirit of the New Fourth Army and educates people through history. It has been named the “National Defense Education Base” by the Anhui Provincial Government and Anhui Military Command, and the “Anhui Provincial Patriotic Education Base” by the CPC Anhui Provincial Committee and Anhui Provincial Government.
Datong “Million People’s Pit” is a patriotic education base.In July 1986, with the approval of Anhui Provincial Government, it was listed as an important cultural relic. Now, it is a provincial “patriotic education base” and a national 3A-level tourist attraction.
