The Identity of the Owner of the Wuwangdun Tomb Confirmed!
Recently, the Wuwangdun Archaeological Project Team announced that among the bronzes unearthed from Wuwangdun Tomb No. 1, besides a pair of bronze food containers (fu) with an inscription on the rim reading “楚王酓前作铸金簠以供岁尝”(King Xiong Wan of the Chu State made and cast this golden fu for annual offerings). Additionally, at least ten other bronze artifacts are engraved with the inscription “楚王酓前.”Research by experts in ancient characters has concluded that “酓前” refers to King Kao Lie of Chu, also known as “Xiong Wan.” These direct pieces of evidence have officially confirmed the identity of the owner of Wuwangdun Tomb No. 1 as King Kao Lie of Chu.
